Intel’s Havok engine was used in many well-known titles such as Mortal Kombat X, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Destiny, Watch Dogs and The Elder Scrolls Online. Recently, Microsoft was able to complete the engine’s acquisition from Intel.
And that was exactly the reason, a very good track record. The company said,“Havok is an amazing technology supplier in the games industry and the leading real-time physics creator. We saw an opportunity to acquire Havok to deliver great experiences for our fans. Throughout the company’s history, they’ve partnered with Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and many others to create more than 600 games including Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, Destiny, Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls.”
This acquisition will further help developers by getting tools needed ti make games. The company hints that it will include the engine in its Azure Cloud services. Intel did claims that the engine works along side DirectX 12, Visual Studio and Azure. Therefore, Microsoft wishes to use the Havok engine in its cloud server to be used in games like Crackdown 3.
Intel acquired Havok engine eight years ago when it purchased an Ireland-based company ‘Havok’. Havok engine is well known for physics applications and Intel had its own interests to have a discrete gaming solution back then.
